How Digital Treasure Hunts Enhance Onboarding for New Hires
Make your onboarding programme more engaging with a Digital Treasure Hunt. It’s a fun, team-building experience that helps new hires connect, explore their city, and settle in from day one.
For many graduates and international hires, starting a job also means starting a new life in an unfamiliar city. While most onboarding programmes focus on policies and procedures, few address how daunting it can feel to navigate a new environment while trying to connect with colleagues.
A Digital Treasure Hunt helps new hires feel part of both the team and the city. It offers a more human, interactive alternative to presentation-heavy inductions, leaving employees confident, motivated and connected from day one.
What is a Digital Treasure Hunt?
A Digital Treasure Hunt is an app-based team activity that takes participants on a guided exploration of their new surroundings while building relationships with each other. Teams solve clues, complete challenges and discover local landmarks, all guided by the app and supported by our team in the format that best suits you.
We offer two flexible formats:
- Fully managed: Our event managers are on site to run everything from start to finish.
- Remote host: We deliver the briefing and results virtually, while supporting your group in person from our control centre.
Why choose a Digital Treasure Hunt for onboarding?
Onboarding should help new hires feel confident, connected and ready to contribute. A Digital Treasure Hunt achieves this by combining team building with orientation in a fun, purposeful way.
1. Build stronger teams
New hires collaborate in small groups, strengthening communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills from the start.
2. Help them feel welcome
Exploring the city with colleagues helps international and relocated hires feel included and valued.
3. Ease first-day nerves
A relaxed, social activity takes the pressure off and creates a positive first impression of your culture.
4. Reinforce your company values
We can include your branding and custom questions in the game to reinforce key messages from onboarding presentations.
What do participants actually do?
Team must walk to locations around their town or city to unlock tasks. Tasks include trivia questions, photo challenges and creative video challenges. Rounds cover a wide variety of themes like sport, music, movies, TV, brainteasers and more, ensuring something for everyone.
Examples include:
- Recording a short magic trick video
- Creating an optical illusion photograph
- Answering company-related trivia based on earlier presentations
- Solving riddles and uncovering cultural facts about the city
We tailor every event to suit your objectives and group dynamics.
Practical details
We recommend booking four to seven weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. For clients who run regular onboarding sessions throughout the year, many choose to schedule them all in one go. We can also accommodate shorter lead times and last-minute requests whenever possible.
Sessions typically run from 90 minutes to 2.5 hours and can take place anywhere in Ireland, including Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway. We are flexible to your time needs.
If the weather is poor on the day, we can switch to an engaging indoor alternative at your venue. For participants with mobility needs, we can adjust the route or release additional venue-based tasks to ensure everyone can take part comfortably.
One HR client recently told us:
“Dynamic Events lived up to their name. They were agile, professional and delivered a really enjoyable experience for our new hires. Highly recommend.”
