Centenary Commemoration for Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Specially commissioned "Big Picture" team building activity to mark 100 years of the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General.
Brief
As part of an annual 200 person conference at the Convention Centre Dublin this group wished to mark the centenary of the establishment of the Office on the same day where all 200 colleagues could take part.
Solution
A custom designed Big Picture activity was most suitable suitable. Our graphic designer created a piece of art marking 100 years which the whole group would recreate into a giant 6m x 1.4m mural. The finished piece of art would be put on permanent display in the Office to mark the occasion.
The Big Picture is an excellent fun team challenge. A coordinated team approach is necessary to produce a masterpiece within the given time frame. Assisted by our event staff giving tips and help all the way, the groups were required to paint your own work of art. Though of course they had no idea what they were painting until the whole team combined their talents and the final “piece de resistance” was unveiled.
This programme has been designed to permit colleagues to test and demonstrate the importance of communication and co-operation by allowing them to create and paint a giant mural masterpiece. To be successful the team needs to work together in harmony to ensure the quality of the end product.
To begin we needed to agree on a concept and image. We used historic and modern elements of Dublin's built environment to showcase how the city has evolved over the last 100 years.
Process
The Dynamic Events team distributed pieces of the overall picture to each team member, that individual is then given the task of recreating what they see in the piece. When all team members have completed their piece all the pieces are put together to form the bigger picture.
Delegates were equipped with paints and brushes and the required tools to recreate their masterpiece. Each delegate was given very little information about the end product which encourages better communication and collaboration.
After each delegate had completed their piece of the jigsaw they are collected and mounted on a large 6m x 1.44m frame and hidden from view until all the pieces are in place. At the end of the conference the giant mural was revealed to close out the day.
The beauty of this team building activity is that the finished product will live on as a reminder of the importance of the day and how effective teams can work well together. Either way the work of art is guaranteed to inspire, remind and motivate people to work together long after the day of the event.
It has also been an ideal way to brighten up the wall spaces in the corridor of the office.
Office of Comptroller and Auditor General
Thank you so much for all the work you and the guys put into the Big Picture exercise. Everyone seems to have thoroughly enjoyed it and they were quite impressed with the end result. The finished product turned out really well. By all accounts it seems to have been a great hit all around! Could you please thank the team for me for all of their hard work on the day.
